We are Kaitlin and Brian, a couple of outdoor educators turned world travelers. Our first RTW adventure began May 18th, 2011 in Malaga, Spain, and took us around the globe for a year. That’s a quick elevator speech, anyway. We would like to think our story has a little more to it…
Well then, what is your story?
Over the span of about five years, we met, fell in love, graduated from college, found jobs, and got married. A lot of other really great things happened in between, but one thing happened we didn’t anticipate: we became tied down to one place by our jobs, our possessions, and our own complacency. It slowly dawned on us that we were on the fast track toward the American Dream; something neither of us ever really wanted.
We had both been yearning to travel around the globe for a number of years, but it never seemed like more than a desk-bound daydream. We had endless reasons why the timing wasn’t right: we didn’t have enough money, we had other obligations, and a number of other equally lame excuses. Then one dreary day in November 2010, we decided on a whim that we were ready. We quit our jobs, sold most of our possessions and booked one-way flights to Spain.
What Do you do while you are traveling?
We both love adventuring off the beaten path, camping, seeing live music, exploring cities, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures. We are trying to stay as open to whatever comes our way as we can. We like to think of ourselves teetering somewhere between a well-planned itinerary and whimsically moving from place to place without a care. We are fortunate to have friends living in many places around the world and we plan to visit as many of them as possible. We will travel on planes, trains, buses, and (mostly) on our own two feet. We have a very rough idea of what our life will be like on the road, but we’re excited for the universe to turn us upside down and mess with our expectations while we are traveling.
So why the blog?
At first, we thought we would write and photograph as a way to chronicle our adventures for friends, family, and perhaps a few interested strangers. The blog will still serve that way in some respects, but we also want to share what we learn along the way for other globetrotters and armchair travelers alike. If we can help inspire others and provide some useful information for travels of any scope, we will be satisfied. If you have any questions or just want to say hey, feel free to email us using the form on our contact page.
You can also follow us on our social networking sites, and make it easy on yourself by subscribing to our RSS feed to get updates each time we post to the blog.
We hope you enjoy globetrotting with us!
